What NT law says about pet tags
Local council by-laws (no territory-wide scheme)
There is no NT-wide tag law. Registration, microchipping and identification requirements are set by each council’s by-laws — for example the City of Darwin requires dogs and cats to be registered and microchipped from three months of age and issues registration tags, while requirements in Palmerston, Katherine, Alice Springs and the shires differ. Outside by-law areas, general Territory legislation and common law apply.
